We have arrived in Patagonia, or as Jacque calls it, HobbitLand. The air is wetter here, the plants are crazy, and the bus huts are tiny.

What happens if the Hobbit can´t fit in her own bus hut? | Que pasa cuando la Hobbit no acaba en su paradita?

We have already encountered our fair share of waterfalls, volcanoes, crystal blue lakes, and the occasional goat in the road. Cycling from Pucon along Lagos Villarrica, Calafquen, Panguipulli, Ranco, and Puyehue, we then pushed up the Paso Cardenal Antonio Samore and returned to the land of tiny white cars, aka Argentina.

Although we´ve been bathing infrequently, we´ve managed to continue to meet incredibly open and hospitible people along the way. We´re learning little bits about everything in this place: the Mapuche land struggle (complicated, painfull, ongoing), the Chilean milk industry (huge, wealthy, powerful), and the recent volcanic history (the 2011 Puyehue-Cordón Caulle eruption left pummice and ash littered throughout the Parque Nacional Puyehue).  We´ll share some pix of the flora, fauna, and gente muy amable.

Llegamos en Patagonia. El aire es más húmedo, las plantas son locas, y las paradas son chiquititas. Ya hemos encontrado muchos saltos, volcanes, lagos azules, y algunas cabras en el camino. Pedaleamos desde Pucon al lado de Lagos Villarrica, Calafquen, Panguipulli, Ranco y Puyhue. Después crucemos el Paso Antonio Samore y volvimos al país de autos blancitas, Argentina. Aunque no nos bañamos frecuentemente, encontramos muy buena gente.  Aprendamos las cositas sobres muchas sujetas diferentes en este lugar: el movimiento resistente de Mapuche (complicado, doloroso, continuando), las lecheras grandes de Chile, y la historia recién de volcanismo (sobre el erupción del Puyhue-Cordón Caulle en 2011). A y esta algunas fotos de las flores, las plantas, y la gente muy amable.

Augustina, the 4-year-old granddaughter of Eva and Francisco Salgado, who hosted us in Ignao. We met the horses they care for and spent a stupendous evening in the campo with th whole family. | La Augustina, 4 años, es la nieta de Eva y Francisco Salgado. Nos quedamos con ellos en Ignao, y nos mostraron sus caballos y su campo.
